A basket case

A seamless knitted collection of home textiles

Hand weaving baskets is an ancient craft that has been practiced for thousands of years. Its origins can be traced back to prehistoric times when early humans used woven baskets for carrying food, water, and other goods.

Hand weaving baskets has been a tradition in many cultures and communities around the world, and each region has its unique style and techniques. It is a craft that requires patience, skill, and attention to detail, but the end result is a beautiful and functional piece of art.

In this project I explored the possibility of translating the laborious craft of hand weaving baskets into the realm of seamless circular knitting, utilizing the latest technology and materials.

This project was made during the Santoni Pioneer Program (SPP) in Shanghai, China.
